What It Does
Hermes is like a command center for an AI assistant. It can use tools, inspect files, run terminal commands, work from chat apps, save reusable skills, remember useful context, and handle scheduled jobs.
It is best for builders, sysadmins, researchers, and anyone who wants an AI assistant that can do more than answer questions in a browser tab.
Good For
- Running an AI assistant from the terminal or messaging apps
- Automating IT tasks, website work, research, and documentation
- Using different AI providers without rebuilding your workflow
- Saving repeatable workflows as skills so the agent improves over time

On Linux, macOS, or WSL, run the installer from your terminal:
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/NousResearch/hermes-agent/main/scripts/install.sh | bash
Then start Hermes:

During setup, Hermes will ask for your model provider and API keys. Keep those private and store them only in your own local configuration.
